Commenting on today’s publication of the Midlands Engine Strategy, Danny Harrison, business development manager at Birmingham-based Nicklin Transit Packaging, said:
“There’s been much talk of the so-called Midlands Engine for some time now so it’s positive to finally see some concrete plans in place to boost the region’s productivity, skills and connectivity.
“As a transit packaging business, we rely on the regional transport network to get business done, so any improvements that make it more efficient can only be a good thing. What’s more, recruitment continues to be a major challenge for manufacturers like us who are migrating towards more of a people-led service proposition so the provision for greater championing of skills and training here in the region should hopefully lead to stronger candidates being available in the long run.
“Publishing this strategy is naturally a positive step but as with all of these big-ticket Government initiatives, the proof will always be in the pudding.”
