Nicklin Transit Packaging is supporting Mental Health Awareness Week (15-21 May 2023) with a series of events and initiatives for the 120-strong team.

Given the physical nature of the job, Nicklin is focusing on highlighting the impact of musculoskeletal disorders on mental health, and Sue Atkins, the company’s external occupational health provider, has been on site to provide specialist advice to reduce the risk of these types of injuries. Staff had the opportunity to attend a stretching session, where they were given hints and tips on how to properly warm up for the day.

During the week, the company has also invited nominations from the team to become a specially trained Mental Health First Aider.

Nicola Callaghan, chief people officer at Nicklin Transit Packaging, said: “Obviously it is important that we focus on the mental health and well being of our people throughout the year, and clearly communicate the support that is available.

“We wanted to use the spotlight of Mental Health Awareness Week to focus in specifically on the link between physical pain and mental health and provide a very relevant message to our members of staff who are doing a very physical job day in day out.”

The company will continue to raise awareness of the advice provided by Sue, as well as investing in equipment such as anti-fatigue mats to support colleagues in physically demanding roles.
